David was born and raised in Melbourne, completing his undergraduate medical training at Melbourne University in 1973. He completed his orthopaedic surgical training through the Melbourne Orthopaedic Training Programme in 1981. This was followed by 12 months of further surgical training at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, England and he spent 6 months as a travelling fellow in Europe and Sweden. David returned to Melbourne to join the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group in 1984 where he continues to practice Orthopaedic Surgery. He spent 10 years as a visiting orthopaedic surgeon at the Alfred Hospital and is now in full time private practice.
