Adrian Talia is an Australian and internationally trained Orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in surgery of the foot and ankle.
Mr. Talia was born and raised in Melbourne, completing his undergraduate Bachelor of Biomedicine (with honours) and then his medical degree (Doctor of Medicine with Distinction) at The University of Melbourne. He was awarded Dean’s honours for both of these degrees. Whilst working as a junior doctor, he completed a Masters of Surgery (MS) majoring in research methodology and a Graduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy. During this time he also worked as an Anatomy tutor at The University of Melbourne. He subsequently completed specialist training in Orthopaedic surgery in Victoria, obtaining Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2023.
After completing training, Adrian completed a trauma fellowship whilst working as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Western Health and The Northern Hospital. He then departed overseas with his young family to complete subspecialty fellowship training in Foot & Ankle Surgery at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford, UK. He also completed a clinical and research fellowship at Swiss Ortho Center in Basel, Switzerland. Whilst overseas he gained skills in all aspects of contemporary foot & ankle surgery including application of modern techniques in ankle replacement surgery, joint preserving surgery for ankle arthritis such as corrective osteotomies and cartilage grafting, hind foot fusions and large deformity correction, arthroscopic ankle fusion, management of ankle instability and ligament conditions, flatfoot corrective surgery, neurological foot conditions, sequelae of congenital foot disease and management of forefoot conditions such as hallux valgus, hallux rigidus and lesser toe deformity. In addition he was also involved in the management of patients with diabetic foot infections and Charcot neuroarthropathy.
Mr. Talia returned home to Melbourne and joined Melbourne Orthopaedic Group in 2024.
He also has a public appointment at Western Health (Footscray, Williamstown and Sunshine hospitals) where he is involved in training junior doctors and future orthopaedic surgeons and manages elective lower limb conditions as well as adult and paediatric trauma patients. Through the Western there are academic links with The University of Melbourne and Victoria University.
In order to provide modern and evidence-based practice for his patients, Adrian has a keen interest in academia and has presented and published peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals. He continues to be involved in research projects both in the private and public sector focussing on foot & ankle surgery, orthopaedic trauma, service delivery and surgical education. He serves as a reviewer for several international orthopaedic journals.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA). A member of the Australian Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), Australian Medical Association (AMA), Australian Orthopaedic Trauma Society (AOTS), AO Trauma Foundation, International Bone Research Association (IBRA) and Girdlestone Orthopaedic Society (Oxford, UK). He is an associate member of the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (BOFAS).
