Tim Lording is a locally and internationally trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in surgery of the knee. He was born and educated in Melbourne, completing his undergraduate medical degree at Monash University in 2002. He subsequently undertook advanced orthopaedic training in Victoria and Tasmania, obtaining fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2011.
Tim worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon for 18 months at the Sandringham and Frankston Hospitals, before departing for further postgraduate subspecialty training overseas. He spent 12 months at the Centre Albert Trillat in Lyon, France, training in complex knee surgery. He then undertook a further 12-month fellowship in orthopaedic sports medicine at the Fowler-Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic in London, Canada.
Tim returned to Melbourne and joined the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group in 2015.
Tim’s practice encompasses all areas of knee surgery, from sports injuries to osteoarthritis. He has a special interest in knee instability and ligament injuries, as well as realignment osteotomies for knee preservation. He performs robotically assisted knee replacement, including partial, total and revision procedures. He also performs complex knee procedures, including meniscal transplants and osteochondral allograft procedures.
Tim has an active interest in clinical and biomechanical research. He has published over 50 articles on knee surgery in peer-reviewed journals, and regularly presents his research at national and international meetings. In 2016, he was awarded the APKASS to AOSSM travelling fellowship, where he visited and lectured at orthopaedic sports medicine centers across the USA, including at Harvard and Stanford Universities. In 2019 he represented the Australian Knee Society as the first travelling fellow to the Korean Arthroscopy Society.
Tim is an active member of numerous associations and societies. He is the Fellowship Coordinator of the Australian Knee Society, and serves on the Knee Preservation committees of the Asia-Pacific Knee, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Society (APKASS), and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). He also serves on the Scientific committee of the International ACL Study Group.
