The MOG Research Foundation was created to nurture a thriving research environment within our busy private practice. Managed by a board of directors, including respected research professionals from Melbourne institutions, the foundation oversees Clinical research projects conducted by MOG surgeons, fellows, and allied staff and a fellowship program that supports advanced training for local and international orthopaedic specialists.

What is track record?

Since 1993, the foundation has supported 63 fellows, many of whom have gone on to leadership roles in orthopaedics worldwide, including in Canada, England, India, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, and Sri Lanka. Research generated through this program is frequently published in leading orthopaedic journals.

The Melbourne Orthopaedic Group (MOG) offers a highly sought-after Orthopaedic Fellowship Program, established in 1993, designed for senior orthopaedic trainees aiming to enhance their expertise in subspecialty surgical training and research.

  • Lower Limb Reconstruction Fellowship: This program allows fellows to work alongside A/Prof Andrew Shimmin and Mr Jonathan Bare’, focusing on advanced techniques in hip and knee reconstructive surgery.
  • Foot and Ankle Fellowship: Supervised by Mr. Tim Schneider, this fellowship provides comprehensive exposure to foot and ankle surgery, including arthroscopic procedures and complex reconstructions.
  • Shoulder/Elbow Upper Limb Fellowship: Under the guidance of Mr. Gregory A. Hoy, fellows engage in all aspects of shoulder and upper limb orthopaedic management, encompassing both arthroscopic and open surgical techniques.

The MOG Fellowship Program is recognized by the Australian Orthopaedic Association and has a distinguished history of training orthopaedic surgeons who have progressed to prominent positions worldwide.
